Coat and looks how to spot one

soft, medium-length, wavy to curly

A small dog with a real teddy-bear look: round, soft face, long ears and a fluffy coat that ranges from wavy to curly. The coat sheds very little, but it keeps growing and needs regular attention.21

Personality what they are like

Cheerful, loving and loyal. Cavapoochons are clever and generally easy to train, which makes them a friendly choice for first-time owners. Since three breeds are in the mix, each dog's personality can lean towards any of them.21

Daily activity how busy a day looks

Moderate: about 30 to 60 minutes a day of walks and play is enough.21

Grooming and care the hands-on bits

One of the higher-maintenance small coats: brush several times a week to prevent mats and plan a professional groom every few weeks (sources suggest from fortnightly to every eight weeks). Keep the long ears clean and dry.21

Home where they are happiest

Its small size suits apartments and smaller homes well. Does best with people who are home for much of the day.21

Food basics what goes in the bowl

A complete small-breed food, kibble alone or mixed with wet food. Some can be picky eaters, so ask your vet for guidance on amounts and changes.12

Company who they like around

Very family-focused, great with children and usually friendly with other animals when socialised early.21

The story where it all began

Breeders in the United States began developing the Cavapoochon in the early 2000s, aiming for a small, soft-coated, teddy-bear-like companion that sheds little. Most are about half Poodle, with the other half split between Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise.12

A day in the life told by a Cavapoochon

I started the day with a big stretch and a waggy tail. My human took me for a walk where I chased a leaf and said hello to a friendly squirrel. Back home, we did some fun training games – I love learning new things! Then I napped in a sunbeam. In the afternoon, we played fetch in the garden. I ended the day curled up on my human's lap, feeling safe and content.

A made-up story, just for fun. Not advice of any kind.

Owner questions the things everyone asks

How often should I feed my Cavapoochon, and at what times?

Feed your Cavapoochon at least two meals a day for adults, and three to four smaller meals for puppies. Stick to a consistent schedule, like morning and evening, to help their digestion. For exact amounts, check the food label and ask your vet, as some Cavapoochons can be picky eaters.214

What should a Cavapoochon eat, and which foods are dangerous?

A complete small-breed dog food, either kibble alone or mixed with wet food, is ideal. Avoid dangerous foods like chocolate, grapes, raisins, xylitol, onions, garlic, and alcohol, these can be very harmful. Always ask your vet before changing their diet or if you have concerns about picky eating.215

How often should I bathe a Cavapoochon?

Furry Diary's starting plan suggests a bath every 8 weeks, and general guidance says at least once every three months. Bathe more often only if they get dirty or have skin issues, but avoid over-bathing to keep their coat healthy. Use a gentle dog shampoo and follow your vet's advice.6 Pet Wiki plan

How often does a Cavapoochon need brushing?

Brush your Cavapoochon several times a week to prevent mats and tangles, Furry Diary's plan recommends weekly brushing. Their soft, wavy to curly coat needs regular attention, so daily brushing is even better during shedding or if it's long. Always use a suitable brush and be gentle.216 Pet Wiki plan

How do I trim a Cavapoochon's nails, and how often?

Trim nails every 4 weeks, or sooner if you hear clicking on the floor. Cut a little at a time, stopping before the quick (the pink part) to avoid pain. If you're unsure, ask your vet or a groomer to show you the safe technique.6 Pet Wiki plan

How much exercise does a Cavapoochon need?

Your Cavapoochon needs about 30 to 60 minutes of walks and play each day, Furry Diary's plan includes daily exercise. This moderate activity keeps them happy and healthy, and they'll enjoy a mix of walks and indoor games. Adjust based on their energy level and always provide fresh water.21 Pet Wiki plan

How do I look after a Cavapoochon's teeth and ears?

Brush their teeth daily if possible, or at least 2, 3 times a week using a dog-safe toothpaste. For ears, check them every 2 weeks and keep them clean and dry, never push anything into the ear canal. Furry Diary's plan includes ear checks every fortnight and regular dental care.216 Pet Wiki plan

How long does a Cavapoochon live?

A Cavapoochon typically lives between 12 and 15 years, bringing you many joyful years of companionship. With good care, regular vet visits, and a loving home, they often enjoy a long, healthy life.1

Is a Cavapoochon good with children and other pets?

Yes, Cavapoochons are very family-focused and great with children, and they usually get along well with other animals when socialised early. Their cheerful, loving nature makes them a wonderful addition to a household with kids or other pets. Always supervise early interactions to build positive bonds.21

Can a Cavapoochon be left alone?

Cavapoochons do best with people who are home for much of the day, as they are very social and family-focused. They may struggle with long periods alone and could develop separation anxiety. If you must leave them, start with short absences and provide toys or a safe space, but consider a pet sitter for longer times.21
