Cats in Armenia: rules and travel
The Law on Responsible Treatment of Animals (in force 28 April 2026 per a UN database) introduces a central system to identify and register animals with microchips and passports. Details of owner duties were not available in full.
Municipalities such as Yerevan run their own stray animal programmes; no municipal pet rules were found online.
Registration and microchip
The law covers animals in general, including a central identification and registration system. Cat-specific rules not confirmed.[2]
Keeping rules
Keepers must provide suitable conditions and veterinary care and control reproduction.[2]
Travelling to Armenia with a cat
A pet needs a veterinary health certificate completed no more than 5 days before travel and endorsed by the origin country's authority, and a rabies vaccination about 20 days to 11 months before arrival. A microchip is recommended, not required. Air arrivals go through Zvartnots airport.[1]
Same as from the EU: endorsed veterinary certificate within 5 days of travel, rabies vaccination 20 days to 11 months before arrival, no permit for a personal pet.[1]
Not required according to a third-party site.[1]
None if the requirements are met, according to a third-party site.[1]
Not confirmed yet: Microchip. We only show what an official or named source states.
