Cats in Poland: rules and travel
Dog and cat chipping and a national register become compulsory under a 2026 law once it takes effect. Meanwhile the main costs are an optional local dog fee and the EU travel rules.
Dog fee amounts, leash rules and some local duties are set by each gmina (municipality).
Registration and microchip
Cats are covered by the same KROPiK register once the 2026 law takes effect: chipping and registration before the cat is 3 months old, existing cats within 3 years. Free-living farm cats are exempt.[1]
Not compulsory today. Under the 2026 law owned cats must be chipped before 3 months of age once it takes effect.[1]
