Liability insurance
Dog liability insurance costs about 100 CHF a year in Switzerland. source
Comparis (2023): dog liability insurance from 100 CHF/yr. Mandatory in many cantons/municipalities, e.g. Frauenfeld requires cover of 3 million CHF. Often part of private liability insurance.
Before you buy
- New policies often have an age limit, so insuring young is cheaper and easier.
- There is usually a waiting period before illness cover starts.
- Conditions the animal already has are not covered.
- Check whether hereditary conditions such as hip dysplasia are covered. Each breed page lists the ones to ask about.
- A higher excess or co-payment lowers the price but raises what you pay at the vet.
- Look at the yearly limit. One operation can cost more than a cheap policy pays out.
